Description
The characteristic country house is respected as much as possible by placing the new living extension into the garden, only connected with a small, transparent corridor. This way the extension becomes part of the garden. The contrast between old and new is emphasized by the shape and use of material in the new living space.
To enlarge the relation with the garden the new, round building has a wooden exterior finish combined with a rough natural stone base. The building has a full wood based construction with round columns supporting a massive wooden floor slap with an acoustic profile. The large use of wood has a positive influence on the internal climate, making it a healthy living space.
Lots of light is allowed into the space by the big windows. The roof terrace (accessed by the existing bedroom) is finished with composite decking. These sustainable composite elements contains a mixture of wooden and plastic fibers.
